Villanova Men Place 17th, Women 21st at NCAA Cross Country Championships
Carmen Douma placed 24th and Scott Tantino finished 48th to lead the Wildcats

Bloomington, Ind.--- At the 1999 NCAA Cross Country Championships held at Indiana University in Bloomington, Ind., on Monday, Nov. 22, the Villanova University men's cross country team finished in 17th place with 424 points, while the Wildcat women registered a 21st place finish with 462 points. The top finisher for the Villanova men was senior Scott Tantino (North Wales, Pa./ North Wales) who finished in 48th place with a time of 31:26.20, while the women's top finisher was senior Carmen Douma (Cambridge, Ontario/ Christain) who ended the race in 24th with a time of 17:16.50.

In men's competition, Arkansas won the NCAA team title with 58 points. Rounding out the top five were Wisconsin (185), North Carolina State (201), Stanford (223), and Michigan (282). Taking the individual NCAA crown was South Carolina's David Kimani who crossed the finish line in 30:06.60.

Following Tantino's 48th place finish for the Villanova men was senior Dean Smith (Baltimore, Md./ Calbert Hall) who recorded a 65th place time of 31:41.50. Other Wildcat finishers included:

In women's competition, Brigham Young took the National Championship with 72 points, with Arkansas (125), Stanford (127), Wisconsin (185), and Kansas State rounding out the top five. Taking the individual title was Wisconsin's Erica Palmer, who finished the race with a time of 16:39.50.

Following Douma's 24th place finish for the Wildcats was freshman Liz Autrey (Burke, Va./ Robinson Secondary) who placed 55th in 17:40.80, and senior Kristen Nicolini (Annapolis, Md./ Annapolis) who finished 108th in a time of 18:03.40. Other Villanova finishers included:
