Sophomore forward David Bluthenthal had game highs of 30 points and 14 rebounds to lead the USC men's basketball team to an 89-65 win over the California All-Stars on Friday (Nov. 5) in front of 687 at the Lyon Center in the Trojans' exhibition opener.

USC also got double-double performances from junior forward/center Brian Scalabrine (23 points, 10 rebounds) and sophomore forward Sam Clancy (18 points, 11 rebounds).

"The only thing I'm doing now is seeing where we are as a team," USC's fourth-year Head Coach Henry Bibby said. "I think we had a very good evening. We got some of the jitters out and some of the mistakes out of the way. This will help us get a good read on where we are."

Said Bluthenthal on his performance: "I didn't force things. I let the game come to me and I found myself in the position to score. I tried last year to soak things up and learn as much as I could. This year, I'm going to apply what I learned."

The Trojans shot .554 from the field and held their opponents to .351 shooting. USC also outrebounded its opponent, 56 to 29. The California All-Stars were led by former Trojan and Loyola Marymount star Bo Kimble's 15 points. Former UCLA guard Charles O'Bannon also played for the California All-Stars and had eight points.

Returning starting guard Jeff Trepagnier and Brandon Granville were both held out of the game for team disciplinary reasons.

Both players will play in USC's next exhibition, against the Double Pump All-Stars on Nov. 13 at the Lyon Center at 7:30 p.m. USC opens the regular season on Nov. 19 at the Sports Arena against Cal State Northridge at 7 p.m.
